Purpose in Life

In a TED lecture, Adam Leipzig tells you how to learn your life purpose in five minutes. It requires that you answer five questions: Who are you? What do you do? Who do you do it for? What do those people want or need? How do they change as a result of what you do?

The answer to the second question about what you do can be phrased thusly: What do you feel supremely qualified to teach other people? This is your area of expertise, your genius. Everyone, without exception has something they excel in, even if they feel as if they have nothing to give. As Dr. Stephen Southwick explains to war veterans suffering from PTSD: “You are already experts in pain, trauma, and being rejected by society. Is there some way you can use your expertise?”

How can you help someone find their sense of purpose in life? You can start by asking the above questions. And as Frankl says, you don’t impose a task on the person; you lead them to it, to where their own heart is leading them. (pp. 181-183).
